
The Fort Bend Storm played their 1st preseason game on February 4, 2012 at The Rig in Pearland, TX against the Houston Cardinals...
The Houston Cardinals used this game as an exhibition game that counted in their respective league standings. The weather was not perfect, but the rain stopped prior to the game to allow the game to go on as planned. The Cardinals and the Storm played a very physical game. The Storm got a good look at all their players as they rotated everyone throughout the game to see who wants more playing time. The first half was a struggle offensively for the Storm by only producing 2 fieldgoals by Chris Maravelli. He knocked down a 23 yd and 29 yd fieldgoals. The Cardinals quarterback, #1 aka “Superman”, threw two touchdowns to two different receiver in the second quarter to give them the halftime lead of 14 to 6. The Storm struggled in the second half to get anything going on offense. The Storm defense played lights out in the second half by not allowing any more points throughout the remainder of the game. The Storm was trailing with a little over 3 minutes left to go in the game and the Cardinals fumbled a reverse and the ball was recovered by #8 Marquis Thomas to give the Storm the ball on the 3 yard line. The Cardinals defense stepped up and stopped the Storm for scoring on 3 straight run plays. On 4th and goal, #4 Patrick Carter took a bootleg to the left and scored a touchdown the under 2 minutes left to go in the game. The Storm converted the 2 point conversion on the exact same play by #4 Patrick Carter to tie the game at 14 to 14. The game went into overtime and the Cardinals won the toss and decided to receive. The Cardinals marched 35 yards down the field off of 3 penalties by the Storm by way of personal foul penalty and 2 pass interference calls. The Cardinals were on the 35 yard line with a 3rd and 9 and on this play the Cardinals quarterback was intercepted by #54 Sharky Stroud in the middle of the field. The Storm offense took over and pounded the ball for 27 yards by #23 Albert Abu and #24 Wesley Simmons. On a 3rd down and 15, #4 Patrick Carter connected with #13 Jermany Washington for a 55 yard touchdown pass to end the game and give the Fort Bend Storm the win.
